However, you have to get a license in order to be an appraiser in some countries. In Australia, the governing body of appraisers is Australian Valuers Institute. In China, appraisers are under the China Real Estate Appraisers and In Hong Kong, appraising qualification are managed under the General Practice Group under the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. In the UK, appraisers are Valuation Surveyors. They are part of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. In the US, you can browse the website of Appraisal Institute for details. The fee for doing an appraisal, for example in Canada, varies from less than a hundred dollar to over ten thousand of dollars. It depends on who the clients are and what the properties are. Major banks pay lower fees to hire appraisers to do appraisals for them, as the appraisals are more or less a formality to fulfill the banks' policies. Moreover, the complication, fee and the risks associated residential properties are relatively lower than commercial properties.
